Don Covay - “Mercy, Mercy”
I’ve had the guitar riff in this song stuck in my head on and off for the better part of the past two-and-a-half years. It’s soulful, lithe, and achingly restrained. And in case you’re wondering why that style of playing sounds so familiar, yes, that is a young (maybe 18 y.o.) Jimi Hendrix on lead.
Reminds me of how much I was influenced by Hendrix’s playing when I was little, like 9 or so. He was a huge part of why I kept playing music for so long, probably why I’m at Drexel.
